My experience starting this website

I’ve always wanted to make my own website with my own aesthetic and content. After I started working on LexSearch I discovered the joy of making and designing functional minimal websites that looks and feel good, Added the dead time I had during the start of October 2025 it was perfect time to start messing around and see what comes out of it.

This is my first time using an ssg so I went for astro because of the ease of use, cheap / free hosting options, good docs and resources. The setup was straight forward and I went for the blog template. After doing changes and playing around I got the hang of it quickly, I found myself liking the jsx-like syntax with the benefit of static files generations. I immediately started thinking of what the website should be.

The index page I thought should be a decent intro about me with some personality sprinkled in and recent entries and projects.I came up with the status card later which gives information about my current status, interests, and the latest changes to the website using the last git commit time and message. It was a fun idea that I thought of adding.

The themes of the website went through a lot of changes, from yellow/brown, everforest, Gothic to the current one. I think it is good to iterate on something and see what works and what doesn’t. Especially for something personal like this, You would want something definitive.

The takeaway for me after building this thing is, when you make something that you can shape in any way you want it pushes you to explore, build constraints, think deeply about things you might have never considered or try fun ideas. It’s something only you get to define and nobody else is it a blog intended for thoughtful ideas? or maybe a professional website that just presents what you’ve done? or just a windows 7 style experience filled with small features? Only you get to define what it is and how to experience it.
